Understanding Context:Sports in England
Contextualization is the process by which we put events, people, and their ideas in their proper context. Context refers to the situation, or "world" the events take place in. In history, we must think about what it was like to be alive at that particular historical time. What was different from our time? What was the same? What did people value? How did people live? Read this article on the design and culture of sports in medieval England, and answer the question "Why were sports so violent? How do they reflect the culture in which they were designed?"

LEQ's: Long Essay Questions (more coming soon):
These were previously called FRQs (Free Response Questions). Beginning in 2015-2016, the College Board has redesigned the test, including this essay portion. They are now called LEQs- Long Essay Questions. They are written in much the same format as the old FRQ, but are graded differently. I will be updating this section as the College Board distributes additional resources.

The video below is a little outdated now, because it follows the old DBQ scoring rubric. However, Tom Richey does a great job of explaining the basic idea of a DBQ and thesis, evidence, and analysis. Even though it is graded differently, the basic idea and expectations are similar.
